Peak or shield: the key difference
People looking for a bike helmet with a visor do not always expect the same thing. A peak sits above your forehead. A shield sits in front of your eyes. In everyday language both are called a visor, yet they do different jobs.
In this collection you will find bike helmets with a short peak. Depending on the model, it is fixed, removable or height adjustable. So a model here does not automatically come with a clear or tinted shield in front of your eyes. Check these points on the helmet you want:
- Which type of visor does the product page show and describe?
- Is the peak fixed, removable or height adjustable?
- Which sizes and features are currently available?
That way you compare the models by how they are really built.

Compare current KED models with visor
| Model | Visor type per product page | Head circumference |
|---|---|---|
| Spiri II Trend | Removable visor with viewing window | 52–58 cm, 55–61 cm |
| Pector ME-1 | Removable visor, height adjustable in three steps | 52–58 cm, 58–61 cm |
| REACH DT-1 | Removable sun visor | 54–58 cm, 58–62 cm |
| Embrace Urban UF-1 | Short, removable visor | 54–58 cm, 58–62 cm |
| Street Jr. Pro | Removable visor, model for kids and teens | 49–55 cm, 53–58 cm |
The table gives you a quick start. You will find current details on sizes, colours, features and availability on each product page. Look at the product photos there too. They show how far the peak reaches forward and how it sits on the helmet.
Removable or height adjustable?
On a model built for it, you can take a removable peak off the helmet. How it attaches and whether you need a tool depends on the model. The product description of your helmet tells you more.
You set a height adjustable peak within the steps provided. On the Pector ME-1 there are three steps. In every step it stays a peak above your forehead.
Terms like “sun visor”, “visor with viewing window” or “short visor” stand for a specific version. Always read them together with the product photos. If you want a clear or tinted shield in front of your eyes, the product page must name and show exactly that design.
Check size and fit first
A good peak helps little if the helmet fits badly. Measure your head circumference at the widest point, about two finger widths above your eyebrows. Compare the result with the KED size guide and the size range on the product page.
Put the helmet on level. It should sit stable and without pressure and should not shift with the chin strap closed. If your measurement is close to a size limit, try on both sizes if you can. Head shape and helmet shape affect the fit just as much as the measured circumference.
When you try it on, also make sure the peak leaves your field of view clear in your usual riding position. If the helmet does not sit stable or presses, choose a different size or model.
Choose an original replacement visor for your model
A replacement visor does not automatically fit every KED helmet. Start with the exact model name of your helmet and compare it with the compatibility details of the spare part. If the item page names a season, take that into account too.
In the original KED replacement visors collection you will find peaks for specific models as well as shields and winter visors. The KED spare parts overview shows you further spare parts. What counts for the match is the model name. A similar look is not enough.

Care, impacts and trying it on with glasses
When cleaning, follow the care instructions for your helmet model and the visor. Skip aggressive cleaners and solvents and use a soft cloth. Afterwards, check that removable parts are firmly attached again.
If your helmet has taken a hit in a fall or impact, replace it, even if you see no damage on the outside. You can read more in the guide When does a bicycle helmet need to be replaced?
If you wear glasses, try the helmet and glasses on together. Temples, helmet and visor must not press. How well everything fits depends on your head, your glasses and the model. You will find a dedicated selection in the collection Bicycle helmets for glasses wearers.
